Sustainable supply chain management

Capturing utility value through sustainable strategies

sustainable supply chain / green supply chain

A major shift is underway in how businesses think about energy use and the environment. In the past, utilities viewed environmental programs as risk management or regulatory compliance activities.

Today, utilities increasingly view sustainability efforts as management strategy that can increase productivity, reduce costs, enhance customer, community, and governmental relations, provide a competitive edge, and generate revenue.

The increasing focus on sustainability will have a significant impact on the utility supply chain organization. KEMA helps utilities successfully navigate the sustainable supply chain management process to improve quality, performance and value with an eye on mitigating environmental impact.

Internal Environmental Management

We help clients understand and quantify their environmental impact, as well as develop and implement policies and programs to reduce it. We provide training for facilities and maintenance staff; develop language for sustainable procurement policies and operating procedures; and identify green alternatives to your current purchases.

Environmentally Preferable Purchasing

We help clients develop and implement an environmentally preferable procurement (EPP) process. We develop language for sustainable procurement policies, help clients navigate the crowded marketplace of eco-labels and certifications, identify green alternatives to current purchases, and provide training for procurement staff. KEMA is a trusted ISO certifier of numerous products and processes, including ISO 14001.

Encouraging ‘Greening’ of Supplier Operation

We help clients encourage and support the ‘greening’ of supplier operations. Many utility companies are now routinely using independent assessors to conduct Supplier Performance Evaluations (SPE) for their key suppliers. A new emphasis is to include Environmental Management of all assessments as part of the SPE. We also provide specific assessments with a green focus, with leading companies across multiple industries as clients.
