Sensor Smart Cable Guard
The sensor contains two coils, an injection coil and a receiver coil.
At each end of the power cable there is a sensor installed. This two-sensor technology is a feature delivering the following unique features:
● partial discharge activity localization with ~1% accuracy
● elimination of noise
● system self-check
In order to obtain the required partial discharge signals from the cable and eliminate disturbing noise and interference, the system incorporates advanced signal processing techniques. These techniques include a matched filter bank which delivers the maximum signal to noise ratio theoretically possible and several expert knowledge rules.
The distance between two sensor units depends on the local network setup and type of cable used. In general for XLPE, distances of about 8 km, and for PILC distances of about 4 km are feasible. There can be switchgears and transformers in the link again covering as many kilometers of cable possible at the lowest possible investment costs.
