KEMA successfully performs first IDIS smart meters conformance tests
Availability of thoroughly tested interoperable products based on open standards central to building a truly interoperable environment in the smart metering industry
July 20 –
KEMA has successfully performed the first IDIS smart meters conformance tests, following a recent agreement between the two organizations to provide utilities and manufacturers with the testing facilities required to ensure interoperability for smart meters.
IDIS (Interoperable Device Interface Specifications industry association) is a non-profit organization located in Zug, Switzerland, “to maintain and promote publicly available technical interoperability specifications, based on open standards and supports their implementation in interoperable products“. The organisation has developed a comprehensive conformance testing tool for smart meters, thereby providing a foundation for the development of interoperable products. IDIS has currently three members: ISKRAEMECO, Itron and Landis+Gyr. The companies are globally leading in the field of smart metering technology.
KEMA has broad experience in testing smart meters and related activities. According to Dieter Brunner, President of the IDIS association, the tests are “a further significant step forward towards the availability of manufacturer independent, interoperable smart meters”. The availability of thoroughly tested interoperable products based on open standards is being seen as central to building a truly interoperable environment in the smart metering industry.
