Location and team

KEMA’s Australian practice is growing strongly and is seeking Management Consultants with direct knowledge and experience in the areas of Smart Grid (SG) Initiatives for utilities and/ or the telecommunications infrastructure initiatives designed to support next-generation utility system communications.

Candidates must demonstrate a successful track record with the desire to excel in solving business issues and delivering client value. Candidates should be able to contribute to the development of a strong local practice in the field and to contribute to KEMA’s worldwide consulting opportunities.

Ideally, the successful candidate will be based in the Sydney area, although this is not mandatory.

Tasks

• Strategic and business case analysis of SG deployment scenarios, articulating the distinction between various technologies, their functionalities, and resultant utility benefits (economic and otherwise)
• Business process evaluation and redesign, especially as it relates to SG and revenue cycle services within a typical utility
• Technical and/or functional requirements development for network automation, renewables integration, advanced metering, communications, network operations and network business IT systems
• RFP/RFI development support for vendor/system procurement, including development of service level agreements, bid evaluation and contract negotiation
• Program management of large-scale (>500k point) SG system deployments, including logistics planning, scheduling, communications and business change management
• Annunciate and influence industry trends in SG, IT business solutions, utility automation, demand response, and relevant regulatory factors in Australia
• Take a lead role in building and developing a strong industry presence and credibility in the field
• Lead project teams and/or provide ownership and high-value, on-time delivery for project work efforts in consulting assignments
• Work independently, provide unique points of view on solving complex business and technical issues, and meet project deadlines and team commitments
• Provide clear and concise business written materials in various formats including presentation slides, business plans, white papers, or other textual material for mid-level and executive client delivery
• Outlining, writing, and delivering proposals, whether in response to utility client requests (e.g., RFPs) or through unsolicited business development activity
• Developing and delivering publications in trade journals, presentations at conferences, or in articulating points of view as an expert witness

What we're asking

• Tertiary qualifications in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline
• Minimum of 10 years experience in working with an electric, water or gas utility and/or a demonstrated track record in working as a management consultant to utility clients
• Proven utility relationships and a project track record in Smart Grid projects with electric/gas/water utilities
• Experience in interactions with senior executives in a relationship-building and business development setting
• Documented track record of working with utility SG systems, including network automation, renewables integration, advanced metering, communications, network operations and network business IT systems and/or network business processes.
• Ability to demonstrate strong skills and experience in interviewing techniques, including pre-discussion preparation, issues identification and analysis.
• Have a willingness to travel on a regular basis within Australia/New Zealand and internationally where KEMA staff perform services
• Have strong skills in working with standard computer system tools, including Microsoft Office (especially Excel, PowerPoint, Word), as well as familiarity in working with MS Project, Visio, and Access
